The Centre

Dhamma Rata began rotating the Wheel of Dhamma by hosting its 1st 10-days meditation course from January 19, 2011. Dhamma Rata is owned and managed by the Ratlam Vipassana Samiti, a registered charitable trust.

Dhamma Rata (literally ‘contained in Dhamma’) is bounded by idyllic hills on all sides. About 15 kms from the Ratlam City, the picturesque, serene and secluded campus ensconced in a valley makes it an ideal abode for serious meditation.

Spread over 8-1/2 bhigas, it has a spacious Dhamma Hall (20 by 50 feet) which can seat up to 40 students. With 20 residences (offering single accommodation and attached bathrooms) and a dormitory built so far, Dhamma Rata has the capacity to accommodate 30 students comfortably.

The Centre promises to be a munificent boon to the residents of three States (Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat) with Banswara in Rajasthan a mere 25 kms away and Dohad in Gujarat at a distance of 85 kms.

Courses are run solely on a donation basis. No charges are made, not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation. All expenses are met by donations from those who have already completed courses, experienced the benefits of Vipassana and wish to give others the same opportunity. Neither the teacher nor the assistant teachers receive remuneration; they and others who help on the courses volunteer their time freely.
